Downloads of the Now

Here's a concept... how about some complimentary download tunes from time time? No telling what it will be or when it's from - or how often I'll actually change it? But it'll be good, and I'll dig into the archives for some rare live stuff here, too.  Check it out and let me know what you think...??? "Downloads of the Now"

Scott Talks About Living Room

The title "Living Room" is mostly a reference to how I've discovered ways to leave myself exactly that... I often  need to be reminded that "living" is exactly what I'm doing down here and  despite my nature to constantly move, staying focused and busy all the time, I  need and always do benefit from a little "down" time to refill the creative tanks and just chill out.  It's getting to that which is challenging. I think most people can relate. On the more literal level, I spend eons in that very room  of my house; practicing, listening, writing and reading... my favorite place to be, save for the backyard garden  in the evening or playing music somewhere with my friends. Kind of simple, I guess but hey, it's how it felt at the time.

In late 2007 I decided it was time to gather up songs that had not been recorded, a few that had better versions left in 'em and the desire to get my studio chops together. My good friend Darol Anger who inspires us all on so many levels, really helped me manifest this by his example. Basically, when it's time to record (or do anything, really) - just dive in! So I began in January 2008.

I practiced the arrangements, tweaked them where needed and before long began the process of driving myself mad with unraveling a new world of creative power - ProTools - and being not just recording artist, but engineer and producer as well. Ouch... that'll put the hurt on your brain! However, with patience (my nemesis) and diligence (my strength), I persevered. During that initial push and to my great surprise, two complete songs surfaced and wrote themselves - "Katmandu" and "Got To Move" which ended up making it on the album. Wham! Out of the blue, writing songs in the studio. Sheesh... where did that come from?

I actually finished the album initially and fully mixed it by March 2008... but something was wrong. It wasn't sitting right with me - so I gave it a break while I gigged and toured that summer.  Back to the studio in early December 2008 and another song came, "Been Along This Road." I worked some crazy hours to get this project done and by New Year's Day 2009 it was complete. The brothers in the band, Tye North - Carlton Jackson - Darol Anger  & Tony Furtado put just the right touches in all the right places and my goal felt complete and ready for official release this May!
